Hello! My name is Carmen Enriquez. I am currently a student at Trinity Christian College, majoring in History and minoring in Spanish. My goal after I graduate is to work in a museum. I would love to work at the Field Museum or in one of the many beautiful museums in Mexico City. I enjoy to travel and have been very fortunate to travel to multiple states in the United States and in Mexico. I enjoy learning about all types of history, but I like to focus more on Mexican and Latin American history.

For my research paper this semester, I will be writing about the Mexican Sport of La Charrería. The people that participate are known as charros and escaramuzas. Charros are the males that compete and the escaramuzas are the females that compete. My main focus for this research is to find the origins that inspired this sport to begin. I am excited to find more information about this topic and to learn more about my culture.

Welcome to Class

Hey, there! My name is Megan Blok, and I'm a senior history and communication studies major at Trinity Christian College.  Although I came out to the Midwest for college, I'm originally from the West Coast in Washington State.  Don't ask me why I came to the Chicago suburbs, because sometimes I don't even know.  Some areas of history that I've studied while in undergrad have been the U.S. government's relations with Native American tribes in the 1800s; medieval studies such as the Wars of the Roses and gender studies of religious figures; and journalism in relation to the Watergate scandal.  I had the privilege to study at Oxford for the 2018 Michaelmas term, where I furthered my interest in medieval and gender studies.  And museums, which I hope to work in after undergrad.

This blog is for the history senior seminar at Trinity, where we each choose a topic to write an extensive research paper on.  For my research, I'm hoping to pursue studying Edward II and his presumed sexuality.  Within that, I plan on connecting this to his political downfall and his exile.  Did it tie in with his marriage? With his Parliament? With his presence in Scotland?  I'm looking forward to narrowing that down and getting deeper into the interesting life of Edward II, and I hope you stay along for the ride!

Hello there!

My name is Nathan Dykstra. I am a senior history major and theatre minor at Trinity Christian College. I am from Hazel Crest, IL and 2016 graduate of Illiana Christan High School. I have always had a love for history, primarily the American Civil War. Military history tends to be my topic of choice. This tends to be fueled by the video games that I play. However, my historical interests have expanded over the past few years to theatre, the European Renaissance, and Japan. After graduation, I intend to pursue a career as a high school history teacher and theatre program director. For my senior research paper I am going to be looking at the Netherlands during the 80 years' war. I have narrowed my topic down to two potential options: either looking at what led to the formation of the Dutch Republic or what were the effects of Robert Dudley's term as Governor-General of the United Provinces.

Hi, my name is Sarah LeMahieu! I am a senior history education major at Trinity Christian College. I am from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, a town about an hour off of Milwaukee and Green Bay. As I'm studying history education, my goal after graduation is to be a middle school or high school history teacher. I love all areas of history, but I take great interest in American and African history, mostly focusing on women's history within those areas.
For my research project for my history senior seminar, I am writing about Ida B. Wells and her work as a journalist. As Ida B. Wells was an African American woman in the late 19th/early 20th century, a lot of her work focused on African American issues, bringing the horrors of lynching to the American public. My goal for my research is to analyze her works in greater depth to see her comments on women in the United States during her lifetime. I am looking forward to seeing her thoughts in greater depth and understanding how her work impacted the rights of women during this time.
